Charles Brooks

Charles C. Brooks Park is a large and well-appointed sports complex just off of the main thoroughfare on Wilmington Island.  Comprised of four baseball/softball fields, as well as a soccer/football field, the park gets used for youth and adult league practices in various sports throughout the year.

In addition to lighted baseball/softball fields with team dugouts and digital scoreboards, “Charlie Brooks,” as it is commonly called in the islands community, provides bleacher seating, concessions, restrooms, and ample parking for athletes and spectators who frequent the park.  A paved walking/jogging  trail and dog exercise area round out the handicap accessible park.

Located at 7001 Johnny Mercer Blvd, the park also may be entered/exited via Concord Road and Chatham County’s McCorkle Bicycle Trail.  As a central recreation venue for the islands community, the park often provides space for other community events and activities as well.

The sports complex is named for Charles Coleman Brooks, an accomplished athlete throughout his life and a tireless local businessman and public servant.  His service to his community included sitting as judge pro-tem for Recorder’s Court and working for more than a decade on Chatham County Commission, with over half of that as Chairman of Commission.

Pet Policy: Service Dogs are permitted when officially serving in a working capacity in accordance with the Revised Americans with Disabilities Act Service Animal Requirements.  All dogs are welcome but must be leashed when not in the designated dog exercise area and waste must be removed.
