About Park Ranger Brent Newman:

Born and raised in Fort Myers, Florida, Brent Newman was raised in a family of shrimpers. He spent his youth outdoors, hunting, fishing, swimming, and boating, developing a deep love and appreciation for the outdoors.

He receiving a History and a Master’s degree in Historical Administration and Public History with a focus in Museum Studies from Florida State University, and he spent over a decade researching and presenting the history of the southeastern United States and its diverse inhabitants to the public.

Brent has worked at the Tallahassee Museum, Mission San Luis, Mound House, and Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Seminole Museum. Before moving to Savannah, he was the Chief Curator at the Edison & Ford Winter Estates.

Nature Walks: Lake Mayer Community Park 1850 E. Montgomery Cross Road, Savannah, GA 31406 Tuesdays in September | 6 PM. Every Tuesday in September, Ranger Brent will lead a guided walk around the jogging trail at Lake Mayer. We will look for birds and other wildlife! The walk will last about 1.5 hours. Bring binoculars and water.

Mother Mathilda Beasley Cottage Tours. Mother Mathilda Beasley Community Park 500 E. Broad St. Savannah, GA 31401 Thursdays in September | 1-4 PM. The home of Georgia’s first African American nun, Mother Mathilda Beasley Cottage will be open for free tours Thursdays in September from 1-4 PM.

Wildlife Walk Whitemarsh Nature Preserve 68 Johnny Mercer Blvd. Savannah, GA 31410 Friday, September 4th, 18th & 25th | 5 PM Start your weekend with Ranger Brent as he leads a walk through Whitemarsh Preserve on select Fridays in September! Please wear sturdy footwear and bring your binoculars. The walk will last about 1 hour.

Birding Walks Frank O. Williamson Lake 1935 Eisenhower Dr, Savannah, GA 31406 Monday, September 14th & 28th | 5:30 PM Join Ranger Brent for an evenig walk around Frank O. Williamson Lake on Sept., 14th & 28th! We will keep an eye out for a variety of feathered friends! Please wear sturdy footwear and bring binoculars. The walk will last about 1.5 hours.

Scott Stell Stroll L. Scott Stell Community Park 195 Scott Stell Rd., Savannah, GA 31419 Thursday, September 17th & 24th | 8AM Join Ranger Brent for a guided stroll around on the jogging trail as you keep an eye out for birds and other wildlife! The walk will last about 1 hour, bring binoculars and water.

Nature Fest: Saturday, September 26 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lake Mayer.Nature activities, arts and crafts, green learning and more! Free fun for all ages.
